Sad news

Watching recent coverage of Richard Hammond’s accident in the Vampire-style jet car reminded meof recent happenings on the island, and the contrast in the way society in general responds where a “celebrity” is involved, compared to Joe Public.

Sadly, those of us bitten by the Geocaching bug learned that one of our number, Billy Twigger, had been very seriously injured a few weeks ago (August 25), while on the island, and had to be flown off by Air Ambulance for emergency treatment. Like many others who enjoyed a spell on the island, and exploring the interesting and unusual places where he placed his caches, I had never actually met him, but had come to know him through his caches and email conversations, and news of the accident came as a shock.

Messages of concern may be posted on the related thread in the Groundspeak Forum, where those closer to him are releasing what little information is available. Additional threads may be found on GeoX and Geofrees (viewing requires registration).

Unfortunately, there has been little news, other than an indication of response to stimulus by BT, (although it seems that after only thirty hours, Richard Hammond has recovered consciousness, and been able to walk).

Our thoughts are with Billy (Ewan) and his family.
