Mount Stuart arrives on the BBC
With the standard application of Murphy’s (or Sod’s) Law, equipment failure knocked me offline for the best part of 2 days just as the the BBC’s Castle in the Country series eventually managed to make its way to Bute, heralding the arrival of Bute Museum’s coming appearance to the small (or large/wide/HD-ready screen if you’ve invested) soon.
It’s nice to see they’re not limiting themselves to most of the well-known highlights, and have delved into the Welsh origins of the family fortune that financed Mount Stuart.
Probably lots that could be commented on, and lots that they’ll miss, or rather not have time to include, so it was nice to see that the story of Truffles, the cat, made it onto the programme, and we also got to see the carving of her (and her lunch) around the fireplace.
Only managed one long visit there, shortly after it opened to the public. I should return, but the cameras are able to get to places (the pool?) that visitors generally aren’t admitted to, so although it’s no substitute for a visit, the documentaries are a handy supplement.
Thank goodness it was split over a number of days.
